A suspended Perth paediatrician accused of filming himself abusing young patients at his suburban clinics has been remanded in custody after breaching his bail conditions. Chia Liang Saw, 41, appeared in the Perth Magistrates Court facing 15 new child sex offences, bringing the total number of charges against him to 72.

Dozens of Charges Laid Following Extensive Investigation

The scale of the police investigation into Dr. Saw has expanded significantly since his initial arrest on May 30. Authorities now allege there are 18 victims linked to the paediatrician's actions. The newly laid charges include six counts of indecent dealing with a child under 13, three counts of sexual penetration of a child under 13, and one count of producing child exploitation material, alongside multiple charges of illicitly recording children.

During his court appearance, Dr. Saw shook his head as the fresh allegations were detailed. When questioned by the magistrate, the suspended medical practitioner confirmed he understood the charges against him.

Bail Revoked Following Home Detention Breaches

The court heard that Dr. Saw violated the strict conditions of his home detention bail. Under those terms, he was prohibited from accessing the internet—except for essential tasks such as online banking—and was banned from possessing or creating any optical surveillance devices.

While defense counsel Katherine Dowling conceded that her client had breached these restrictions, she argued there was no "nefarious intent." According to the defense, the internet access was an attempt by Dr. Saw to arrange his personal affairs. Ultimately, bail was formally revoked, and no application for bail was made regarding the new charges. Dr. Saw will remain in custody until his next scheduled court appearance on October 30.

Hidden Cameras in Local Consulting Rooms

Prior to his medical license being suspended, Dr. Saw operated clinics in Nedlands, in Perth's western suburbs, and Midland, in the east, specializing in treating children with behavioural difficulties. Detectives allege he used hidden cameras inside these consulting rooms to record the abuse of his patients.

Police prosecutors previously detailed how the alleged victims, primarily young girls aged between 12 and 15, were targeted. One of the victims was reportedly a 10-year-old girl who was allegedly abused inside a residential home. Police also allege that Dr. Saw tracked his victims via social media networks and frequented sugar dating websites.

The investigation originally commenced after Dr. Saw allegedly engaged in online communications with an individual posing as a child, who was later revealed to be an online vigilante. Dr. Saw has not yet entered any formal pleas to the 72 charges.
