Homeless Campers on Memorial Drive in Rockingham Forced to Pack Up

Homeless individuals living in a makeshift camp in Perth's south have started packing up their belongings after being given an ultimatum to leave the area by the end of the day. The camp, located on Memorial Drive in the City of Rockingham, approximately 50 kilometres south of Perth's CBD, has been home to around 45 people.

WA Police and wildlife officers arrived at the camp just after 10am, with officers gently encouraging people to pack up and leave, some referring to the campers by their first name. Gemma Jones, who had been living in her van at the camp, had started packing up her belongings that morning but was still a long way from being finished when authorities arrived.

Ms Jones said she had been offered a place to stay for one week in a Fremantle caravan park, but it was too far, so she was planning to stay in someone's yard or find another spot that was quiet and secluded.
