Two Men Charged in Connection with Hamilton Hill Shooting

Two men have appeared in court charged with the shooting of a 37-year-old man in Perth's Hamilton Hill suburb earlier this month.

Max Anthony Burnes, 39, and Matthew Norris, 47, are two of four people charged in connection with the alleged "targeted" shooting of David William Russell near the corner of Karda Way and Yongka Road on September 13.

The police prosecutor detailed how two of the accused, Burnes and Nathan Dann, 45, waited for the victim in bushland and shot him in the stomach.

"I'll f***ing kill you"

The prosecutor said these words could be heard on CCTV footage of the shooting, although it was unclear who was speaking.

The case was adjourned until October, with the magistrate deferring hearings for the four accused: Burnes, Norris, Dann, and Natalie Margaret Ladner, 49.

Ladner refused to appear before the judge and has been remanded in custody, while Dann did not attend the Fremantle Magistrates Court due to hospitalisation.

The police prosecutor outlined the alleged events leading up to the shooting, stating that Russell and an associate went to a unit in Hamilton Hill occupied by Ladner.

Burnes and Dann were informed of Russell's whereabouts and positioned themselves in nearby bushland.

Russell and Ladner exited the unit at around 4:26am, and about a minute later, Russell was shot in the stomach.

The prosecutor also mentioned that Burnes and Dann went to Norris's house and burned clothing.

Norris's lawyer argued that his client was unaware of what the co-accused were involved in and did not recall anyone setting fire to anything at his property.

Russell was found by a member of the public and received help until an ambulance arrived; he has since been discharged from hospital after surgery.

Police stated that the investigation is ongoing.
