Prime Minister's Departure for Pre-COP
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese departed for the pre-COP meeting, stating that the climate summit would put the Pacific's priorities on the world stage.
“This builds on the work we’ve been undertaking to boost stability, security and prosperity in the region, which is crucial to Australia’s national interest,” he said.

One Nation HQ Purchase
Meanwhile, One Nation MP Barnaby Joyce confirmed that billionaire Gina Rinehart purchased an $8 million office in Brisbane for the party’s headquarters.
“It’s her building, it’s her lease, we’re leasing it off her at commercial rates,” Joyce told News24.
“If we’ve got an individual who’s got money they should be able to spend it as they see fit. If they want to support One Nation, knock yourself out.”
Analysis of the Current Political Landscape
In a separate development, an analysis of the current political landscape revealed that the mood has shifted, with the Greens and Liberals no longer chasing the sensible centre.

“We have to meet the people where they are, and that’s what I am committed to doing, and what I am determined to do,” she said.
Climate Change Minister’s Address at Pre-COP Event
Climate Change Minister Chris Bowen addressed the opening of the pre-COP event in Fiji, highlighting the impact of climate change on the Pacific region.
“Every nation is impacted by climate change. Every nation – Nepal, Thailand, Türkiye, Australia, every single nation is feeling the effects of climate change,” Bowen said.
“We will leave nothing on the field. We will leave no stone unturned. I’m very confident that COP 31 will be remembered as one in which, in a difficult environment, the world took a forward step in a difficult environment.”

“What you have to make sure that you do is tell people, what are you going to cut?” Campbell said.
Shadow Energy Minister Labels Pre-COP Meeting a ‘Farce’
Shadow Energy Minister Dan Tehan labelled the pre-COP meeting a ‘farce’ and accused the Prime Minister of leaving the country during a cost-of-living crisis.
“I do think that we’re much better off if we’re helping the Pacific with a strong economy where we are making sure that we’re looking after Australians,” Tehan said.
