Fremantle Turns Purple: Community Unites for Dockers' Grand Final

Fremantle is bathed in a sea of purple as fans eagerly count down to the Dockers' grand final appearance. The city's streets are adorned with flags, signs, and scarves in the team's iconic colour, creating an electric atmosphere.

Artist Jerome Davenport has added to the excitement, painting a massive mural on the facade of Sailing for Oranges. As he finished the work in just four days, he expressed his hopes for its impact:

"I really do hope that this inspires a few people, and the players,"

Davenport revealed his personal connection to the team, having watched them in the finals 13 years ago in the same street.

"I sat here 13 years ago in this street and watched them the first time they were in the finals." "What an honour to be here and be a part of it for the second time."

The city's businesses are also embracing the purple frenzy, with purple cannolis, ice creams, beer, and hot dogs flying off the shelves. A local butcher is even selling purple sausages.

The local school, Fremantle College, has temporarily rebranded as the "Fremantle Dockers College" and allowed students to dress up in purple on Friday, with a gold coin donation to the Starlight Children's Foundation. Principal Stan Koios described the city's atmosphere as electric:

"We thought, let's get on board the euphoria that started with the Dockers and their success … let's get a bit quirky and crazy,"

Public screens have been set up across the city for a grand final watch party, expecting 40,000 attendees. Roads in central Fremantle have been closed, and public transport is free for the day.

Locals believe the Dockers have already won, regardless of Saturday's result. Student Nathan Campisi expressed his admiration for the team:

"They are the best team in all of Australia; nothing can compare to them,"

Local Juliet Kirsten reflected on the team's growth and the community's support:

"We've seen the club grow over the years, and Freo just responded over the years with the community vibe and everything, and it's just gone exponentially better and better." "We're going to win."

The mural, which depicts the Dockers, will remain a permanent fixture, a testament to the team's achievement.
