A serious crash in Perth's south has left an 80-year-old man with serious injuries and a 27-year-old man in custody.

The crash occurred on South Street in Leeming when an unmarked police vehicle collided with a white Hyundai Accent during a high-speed police chase.

Police Chase Ends in Crash

WA Police confirmed officers were pursuing a stolen car through several suburbs on Monday morning. The chase ended when the police car, which was flashing its lights and blaring its siren, collided with the Hyundai Accent turning across South Street in Leeming at the intersection of Beasley Road.

The elderly driver of the Hyundai Accent was taken to Royal Perth Hospital with serious injuries under the highest priority. The officers in the police vehicle, a man in his 40s and a woman in her 30s, were also taken to hospital as a precaution.

The front of the Hyundai Accent was ripped off in the crash, and the car's engine was ejected, landing 50 metres away on the opposite side of the six-lane road.

Witnesses Describe the Scene

Jessica Humble, a neighbour, said she heard what sounded like "a really bad crash" as she was leaving her home around 11am.

"I just heard loads of police sirens, and then all of a sudden it was just like bang bang bang, really loud," she said.

"It has shaken the neighbourhood a little bit, but it's a really bad spot, it's notorious for crashes."

Another witness, who did not want to be named, said he was confronted by the scene as he returned home.

"There was just debris spread as far as the eye could see," he said.

"Police cars seemed to come from everywhere."

Stolen Car Driver in Custody

With the help of a police helicopter, officers tracked the stolen car to a caravan park in Coogee, where the driver left the vehicle and fled on foot.

Police gave chase and took the 27-year-old driver into custody.
